Therefore, next stop: Nero Belgian Waffle Bar.
Un(?)fortunately, we realized our photos were blurry the first time around. Which meant coming back for more waffles in the morning. The things we do for this blog…
Because the ramen really wasn’t sitting well, Mell wanted to soothe her stomach with a lavender Earl Grey tea. Sans milk. It was warmly received.
M: Gotta love that lavender with the Earl Grey, really brings out the bergamot. I appreciate the details. (What can I say, once a barista always a barista.)
Our first waffle was the Mocha (vanilla ice-cream, 60% dark chocolate, espresso-infused whipped cream) on a Brussels waffle. Light and crispy, this went well with the chocolate and the huge dollop of cream, but overall, we both prefer the chewy and sweet Liège waffle.
M: HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. LIKE. JESUS. Everyone who’s not celiac or wheat-intolerant really needs to GOYA and come devour one of these bad boys. Can I emphasize delicious enough?!
G: Definitely not.
We didn’t get a good photo of Grace’s waffle (the first and hopefully last photo fail)… so here’s Part 2.
G: I skipped breakfast for this. Can’t decide if that’s a poor or super awesome life choice…
M: Definitely super. I don’t know about all this extra sugar in the AM. We should go bike the seawall and burn some of it off.
G: Lol we both know that’s not happening right now.
Nero’s Liège waffles are just really well done: perfectly doughy and soft. Some of the melted chocolate had even hardened into the waffle, which made the mix of textures very rich and gave it some satisfying crunch. The amount of whipped cream they give you miiiight be overkill though—neither of us could finish all of it.
In hindsight, we
probably bit off more than we could chew. Literally, figuratively, whatever. They also do savoury waffles and mini waffles if you don’t feel like gorging yourselves like we so unwisely did. Although the place is small, we were seated pretty quickly and it didn’t look like people had to wait long. If you’re in the mood for some decadent indulgence (the acceptable-in-public-kind…), this is definitely the place to do it.
